Police Granted 7-Day Detention for Suspects in Violent Robbery at Mwinjoyo FM
Description
Two suspects linked to the violent robbery at Nakuru's Mwinjoyo Radio Station got granted a seven-day detention by the Nakuru Court.
Nakuru Chief Magistrate Bildad Ochieng has given this decision. It will allow the police sufficient time to complete their investigations into the incident.
The suspects, identified as Elijah Theuri and David Ngugi, were apprehended last Monday and Tuesday. The next day he was presented in court.
Upon their arrest, law enforcement officers discovered machetes and swords at their residences. The police subsequently filed a miscellaneous application requesting an extension to conclude their investigations.
According to court documents, the suspects entered Mwinjoyo Radio station on May 12 while brandishing a gun and a machete. They robbed the presenters and staff, taking their mobile phones, cash amounting to Sh 35,000, and other valuable possessions. The suspects then made death threats against their victims before fleeing the scene. Moses Ngunjiri, the director of the radio station, filed a complaint at Kiamaina Police Station, prompting an investigation that led to the arrest of the two suspects. The police have requested additional time to conduct an identification parade and to submit the suspects' mobile phones to the Cyber Crime unit at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Unit in Nairobi for forensic analysis. Magistrate Ochieng authorized investigator Eric Wainaina to hold the suspects for seven days to facilitate the completion of the investigations.
